BOULDER — Five new trustees have won election to the board of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), which manages the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR).

The new trustees are: Shuyi Chen, University of Washington; Susan Lozier, Georgia Institute of Technology; Sandra Yuter, North Carolina State University; Patty Leslie, University of Colorado Foundation; and Rita Colwell, University of Maryland, University Park, and a former director of the National Science Foundation.

In addition, David Randall of Colorado State University won reelection to a second term.

“We are delighted to welcome our new board members,” said Susan Avery, the chair of the board. “They bring a diverse range of expertise and experience, which is crucial as we look forward to making progress on important issues in the Earth system science community.”

UCAR also welcomed a new member: the University of Texas at El Paso.

“The University of Texas at El Paso is a first-class research university with expertise in the sciences and engineering that will enrich our consortium,” said UCAR President Antonio Busalacchi. “We are honored to have them as a member.”

UCAR is a nonprofit consortium of 120 North American colleges and universities focused on research and training in the atmospheric and related Earth system sciences.
