WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Under Secretary for Science Paul Dabbar participated in the White House Summit on Artificial Intelligence for industry representatives. Artificial intelligence (AI) is quickly transforming every segment of American industry – from applications in precision agriculture and medical diagnostics, to advanced manufacturing and autonomous transportation. Enhanced maturity of AI-related technologies (e.g. machine learning, autonomous systems, natural language processing), and the resulting increase in industrial applications will necessitate all companies to be AI companies, if they are to stay competitive.
As the world leader in the development of AI, the United States plays a unique role in driving the adoption of AI by industry and the broader public. Today’s summit convened expert AI researchers, industry leaders, and senior government officials to discuss policies to fully realize the promise of AI for the American people.
“I was honored to be part of discussion at the White House today with regard to supporting AI research and development as well as removing barriers to AI innovation here in the US,” said Under Secretary Dabbar. “With government leaders collaborating with our private industry partners, we can develop the American workforce to take advantage of the benefits of AI and enable high-impact, sector-specific applications of AI,” he concluded.Representatives at the summit included both the tech companies developing AI technologies, and the American industry leaders adopting and adapting to new AI technologies in novel ways. While every major industry could have its own summit on this topic, this event focused on the applications of AI in five sectors:
- Agriculture and Food Services
- Energy & Manufacturing
- Financial Services
- Healthcare
- Transportation & Logistics
AI for American Industry serves to demonstrate to the AI community, and the American public at large, the continued commitment of the Trump Administration to fostering emerging technologies in America. The summit called attention to the great American industries already using AI technologies to improve their services to the American people and to benefit the American worker.
