KYIV, UKRAINE – The U.S. Presidential Delegation, led by U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry, to the Inauguration of His Excellency Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, met on the sidelines of the inauguration with President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of the Republic of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid, and President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis. Secretary Perry was joined by U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker, U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon D. Sondland, Director for European Affairs at the National Security Council Alexander Vindman, Deputy Chief of Missions for the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine Joseph Pennington, and U.S. Senator Ron Johnson.
The Presidents and the U.S. delegation discussed the importance of economic and energy cooperation between the U.S. and the Baltic states, including support for U.S. financial investment in the development of the region’s vast natural resources. Secretary Perry emphasized the Trump Administration’s support of energy development and diversity, as a means to lessen the European Union’s reliance on Russian natural gas.
The leaders stressed the importance of a strong relationship between the U.S. and the Baltic states and look forward to continuing to build upon their relationship with Ukraine under President Zelenskyy’s leadership. All four countries committed to providing support, as necessary, to the new Ukrainian Administration in their reform and development efforts – particularly in energy.
