NERC extends its warmest congratulations to Professor Sir Charles Godfray and Professor Terence Lewis, who have both been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

We would like to congratulate:

Professor Sir Charles Godfray FRS for services to scientific research and for scientific advice to government.

Professor Sir Charles Godfray FRS received his knighthood for services to scientific research and for scientific advice to government. Sir Charles served as a member of our highest decision-making body, NERC Council, from 2009 to 2015. He is the Hope Professor of Zoology at the University of Oxford and his research involves ecology, evolution and epidemiology. He is also interested in the interplay of science and policy, especially in the areas of the environment and food security.

Professor Terence Lewis MBE for services to marine science and promoting scientific collaboration in the South West.

Professor Terence Lewis received his MBE for services to marine science and promoting scientific collaboration in the South West. He served as a trustee of Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) for a total of 14 years and was chair from 2009 to 2015. He took a prominent role in the development of PML when it was privatised from NERC in 2002. Whilst building on its reputation as a marine research organisation, Professor Lewis was also dedicated to making PML a success from its fledgling beginnings as a private company with charitable status. These, and subsequent efforts, were all undertaken in his own time and on a voluntary basis.
