英文摘要 | In this study, we investigate atmospheric responses to sea surface temperature anomalies associated with oceanic mesoscale eddies using the Weather Research and Forecasting model. The atmosphere model is an idealized one: horizontally homogeneous and on an f-plane. As expected, the cold (warm) eddies cause sea-level pressure (SLP) to increase (decrease) and reduce (increase) latent and sensible heat fluxes, surface winds, marine atmospheric boundary layer height, and atmospheric precipitable water. The buoyancy term mainly contributes to the production of turbulent kinetic energy in control case. When the advection is weak, the SLP adjustment mechanism is important while in strong advection condition, both the SLP adjustment mechanism and mixing processes have effects on the atmospheric response to mesoscale eddy. Through a series of sensitivity tests, we also examine atmospheric responses to mesoscale eddies under different atmospheric conditions and oceanic mesoscale eddy dynamic features. |
