英文摘要

Between March and May 2022, participants from 24 National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) – mainly from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small-Island Developing States (SIDS) – attended a new Leadership & Management online webinar series aimed at providing training, support and guidance for NMHSs seeking funding to implement projects. The webinar series was designed to enhance skills that are important for the production of effective funding proposals in order to increase the likelihood of securing resources from government departments and development partners.

The topics discussed were broad in scope:

  • where and how to look for funding opportunities
  • stakeholder identification and communication
  • considerations when writing a bid proposal and presenting information and
  • the skill sets required to implement, deliver and manage a project.

The trainers continuously encouraged participants to reflect on how they could apply what they were learning in their projects. There were many opportunities to ask questions and share ideas, thus there were good levels of engagement. Participant feedback was positive and enthusiastic.

The curriculum, a collaboration between the Met Office (UK) and WMO Education and Training, is delivered in a series of four 90-minute webinars with short pre- and post-session exercises.  It targets middle and senior managers currently working on a project or developing a project idea.  Towards the end of the year, NMHSs in WMO regions II (Asia) and V (South-West Pacific) will be invited to follow the new leadership and management webinar series. Training for other regions will be scheduled early next year.
