POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Center for Ecosystem Climate Solutions (CECS) and the Climate Energy and Water Solutions group (CLEWS) at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for the position of Academic Coordinator. CECS and CLEWS are developing the science and technology solutions needed to manage California’s natural lands for climate change, and address issues such as ecosystem management for carbon sequestration, wildfires, water balance, and conservation.
The Academic Coordinator reports to and works in close partnership with the Directors, Principal and Co-Investigators and MSO to administer these large, technically complex, and evolving centers.
CECS and CLEWS involve faculty and researchers from three different schools of UCI (Physical Sciences, Engineering, and Information and Computer Sciences), and other campuses or universities , with numerous partnerships with federal and California state agencies, regional entities, NGO’s, and other research consortia.
The Academic Coordinator will serve as a central administrator for CECS and CLEWS, acting within the policies and procedures of the University, School, and Center goals, which include providing the science-backed data and tools for informed land management decision making, and furthering collaboration between the University and land managers and other stakeholders throughout California.
Specific areas of responsibility include coordinating research, facilitating communication between and among project researchers, planning internal and external meetings and events to further collaboration and share project findings, contributing to research direction and outreach strategy, updating the project website, leading project reporting and proposal preparation.

QUALIFICATIONS
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Bachelor’s level education in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Ecology, Forestry, Geography, Hydrology, Environmental Policy, or a related field and two years of professional experience. Or Master’s level education in a related field.
Excellent organizational skills, including ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Experience coordinating logistics for meetings, workshops, or other events
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and virtual collaboration tools including, Google Suite, Dropbox, and Slack.
Willingness and availability to travel throughout California; valid driver’s license.
