英文摘要That which is hidden from our view is inherently fascinating, especially if it is tantalizingly close, indeed right beneath our feet. Many animals create complex and intricate structures, referred to as ‘animal architecture’ [1], including a variety of burrows, tunnel systems, and nests dug deep underground. At the surface, a naive human observer can usually only detect the entrance hole to this subterranean domain, along with perhaps some excavated materials, like soil or rocks, unearthed by the architects below.
