While hosting the Global Framework on Water Scarcity in Agriculture (WASAG) in its Land and Water Division, FAO has decided to provide a new space through a dedicated website (www.fao.org/wasag) to better serve the growing needs of its member countries, as well as those of other partners and stakeholders.
Where does WASAG come from?
Since its official launch in October 2016 at the UNFCCC COP22 in Marrakesh, Morocco, which was followed by its first Partners meeting of April 2017 in Rome, Italy, WASAG has gained recognition as a collaborative platform where key players across the globe and from different sectors work together towards a common vision of a world, whose food systems are secure and resilient to increasing water scarcity in a changing climate.
What are the changes on the new WASAG website?
- As for all important FAO websites, the main page of the WASAG website is now presented in all six UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish).
- Partners, especially those active in the WASAG working groups, have sufficient space to share more information.
- Space has also been provided for greater engagement at regional and country levels, as provided by the WASAG Strategy for 2021-2024.
What is the future?
Considering the wealth of information provided by the old website in the foundational years of WASAG, the new website has sufficient flexibility to accommodate the anticipated continued growth of the partnership as it delivers more outputs in response to the challenges of water scarcity in agriculture.
