On 9 December 2021, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) signed a memorandum of understanding during the High Level Launch of “The state of the world’s land and water resources for food and agriculture: Systems at breaking point (SOLAW 2021)”, with the aim to provide a formal framework for collaboration on research, capacity development and innovation for the sustainable management of land, water, forest and fisheries resources in the current context of global climate change.

“With this memorandum we are deepening our fruitful collaboration started in 2013 on sustainable land and water management, forests and fisheries, building a common vision on joint work”, highlighted Lifeng Li, Director of the Land and Water Division at FAO.

Along with the signing of the agreement, FAO and UPV have launched a concrete work plan that aims to contribute to six of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation for All), 7 (Clean and Affordable Energy), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), 13 (Action on Climate Change) and 15 (Life on Earth).
