Nexus for Development, a Phnom Penh-based carbon finance non-governmental organisation, has appointed Laura Alsenas as its next executive director.

Alsenas replaces Clarisse Kehler Siebert, who calls time on just over a year with the charity to return to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, where she worked previously in international environmental negotiations.

Alsenas, who joined Nexus for Development in May this year, has been promoted from head of funds into the top job.

She brings more than 15 years of experience providing access to finance for smaller businesses, as well as skills in strategic planning, financial management and team leadership with organisations in the United States, Morocco and Jordan. She also worked as an investment analyst for Lehman Brothers.

Her new role is effective from 10 December.

Nexus for Development is a non-profit that provides access to finance for renewable energy and water projects in developing Asia. The organisations’s recent projects include providing environmentally-friendly cookstoves in Laos and transforming waste into biogas in Vietnam.

In a statement, Alsenas said that Nexus for Development was refining its business model, investing in staff and inviting additional partners and investors to support its vision: a world where all communities benefit from access to clean energy and water.

“I look forward to continuing to guide those pieces into place and for Nexus to deepen its support for the social enterprises that improve lives and benefit the environment,” she said.

Kehler Siebert, who replaced previous Jennifer Louie as executive director in May 2020, will remain in an advisory role with Nexus.
