REGSITER HERE

The responsible governance of tenure as well as the secure and equitable access to water for food security have been at the heart of CFS' deliberations. FAO and partners in member countries, academia and civil society, with support from the government of Germany, are spearheading efforts to improve understanding of water tenure, its definition, assessment, and role in improving food security, climate resilience and social inclusion.

The side event will address how security of water rights underpins food security and nutrition. It will offer an innovative global perspective on water tenure as an actionable concept building on existing CFS recommendations on water for food security and nutrition, as well as the Voluntary Guidelines for Responsible Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the context of national food security, including:

  • Cutting-edge design and application of water tenure assessment, informed by learning in diverse country contexts.
  • Innovative pathways to incorporate water tenure assessments into larger water governance and water accounting efforts to safeguard legitimate tenure rights.
  • Leveraging collaboration among governments, civil society, and international organizations to promote harmonization across sectoral laws and institutions, thereby strengthening tenure rights of Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and rural women.

Speakers include:

  • Eva Müller, Director General, "Forests, Sustainability and Renewable Resources" Division, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Germany
  • Alsaad Ndizaeye, Rwanda Water Resources Board
  • Lifeng Li, Director, Director, Land and Water Division, FAO
  • Sasha Koo-Oshima, Deputy Director, Land and Water Division, FAO
  • Jessica Troell, Director, International Water Programme, Environmental Law Institute
  • Barbara van Koppen, Scientist Emerita, International Water Management Institute
  • Papa Faye, Senior Tenure Consultant, FAO Senegal
  • Stephen Hodgson, Senior Legal Consultant, FAO

The webinar will be held in English with simultaneous interpretation into French.
