ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) welcomes new members to the AGI Board of Directors and congratulates Dr. Paul Weimer as he takes office as AGI President. New and departing members of the Board of Directors are being recognized during the Friends of AGI Reception on October 11, 2021.

AGI welcomes the following members to their roles on the Board of Directors:

  • Dr. Aida Farough (Woodbridge, Virginia) – Member at Large

The new AGI President, Dr. Paul Weimer holds the Paul Rady Chair in the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder. In his career, he has researched the evolution of sedimentary basins, including stratigraphy, sedimentology, structure, tectonics, and fluid movement, with emphasis on deepwater continental margins. He has published extensively on these topics, having written three books, authored more than 170 papers, and co-edited 11 volumes. He has served extensively with local and international geosocieties, with emphasis on integration of disciplines and inter-society cooperation including the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), SEPM (Society for Sedimentary Geology), the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers, as well as being former president of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.

The new AGI President Elect, Dr. Jonathan G. Price, previously served as president of four AGI Member Societies: Association of American State Geologists, American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG), Geological Society of America, and Society of Economic Geologists.

The new Treasurer, Ronald J. Wallace, has served as AIPG Treasurer (2007-2008) and has recently served AIPG disbursing scholarship funds.

A new Member at Large, Dr. Aida Farough is a consultant and former Teaching Assistant Professor at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. She has a wide range of AGI Member Society affiliations.

Finally, AGI thanks its departing Board of Directors members for their dedication to AGI and its mission:

  • Dr. Susan Sullivan (University of Colorado, Boulder) – retiring Member at Large and continuing as Standing Committee on DEI chair
  • Dennis Anderson (Tetra Tech, Omaha, Nebraska) – retiring as Treasurer and continuing as Finance Committee chair
