Geneva, 21 SeptemberAutodesk, a software leader for architecture, engineering, construction, product design, manufacturing, media and entertainment industries, has joined 200 forward-thinking companies as the newest member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).

Autodesk develops technology that empowers innovators everywhere to solve challenges big and small--from greener buildings to smarter products to more mesmerizing blockbusters, Autodesk software helps customers to design and make a better world for all. The company is headquartered in San Rafael, California, and employs more than 11,500 people worldwide.

In addition to creating technology that helps other businesses meet their sustainability goals, Autodesk also leads by example with its own operations. The company has reached net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its business and value chain, and all its buildings, data centers and cloud services are powered with 100% renewable energy. In 2021, Autodesk ranked fourth on Barron’s list of the 100 most sustainable companies and received a perfect score on the HRC Corporate Equality Index. Within WBCSD, Autodesk will initially join the Transforming the Built Environment project, focusing on how digitalization can help integrate sustainability and life-cycle assessments at early-stage decision-making processes in building projects.

“WBCSD provides us and other member companies the opportunity to gain insights and collaboratively develop an accelerated approach to creating value for businesses globally that align strategy and growth with the UN Sustainable Development Goals,” said Amy Bunszel, Executive Vice President, Architecture, Engineering and Construction Design Solutions, Autodesk. “We believe collaborating across industries, sectors and geographies will be key to addressing the world's most pressing challenges, so we are thrilled to join WBCSD to drive this critical mission alongside other leading organizations.”

WBCSD President and CEO Peter Bakker said, “We are pleased to be welcoming Autodesk to the WBCSD membership. Their expertise and leadership truly show their deep understanding of what creating value for people and planet means. We look forward to developing our relationship with Autodesk, innovating with them and other members to make real, tangible progress to tackle the triple threat of climate change, nature in crisis and mounting inequalities, for a more sustainable world. Only collaboration at unprecedented levels will create the impact and scale of transformations that are required for more than 9 billion people to live well, within planetary boundaries, by mid-century– as laid out in Vision 2050.”

Roland Hunziker, Director Sustainable Buildings & Cities at WBCSD added, ”WBCSD’s Transforming the Built Environment project gathers leading companies from across the construction sector to develop solutions for fully decarbonized and circular buildings and living spaces. We look forward to collaborating with Autodesk to leverage digitalization to improve the information flow along this fragmented value chain and to incorporate carbon assessments in every transaction.”
