The Minister for the Environment, the Hon Sussan Ley MP, has determined the 2021 Finalised Priority Assessment List (FPAL) of items that will be assessed under threatened species and ecological communities listing provisions of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 in the assessment period commencing on 1 October 2021. Nominations were prioritised based on likely eligibility for listing using the assessment criteria, quality and amount of information, level of threat, efficacy of existing protection measures and the likely conservation benefit of listing. Particular priority was given to species and ecological communities that require assessment because of the impacts of the 2019/20 bushfires. The Minister and the Threatened Species Scientific Committee have agreed to prioritise further fire-affected species and ecological communities for assessment through interim prioritisation processes in October and December 2021 and April 2022.
