英文摘要There is a series of studies now available regarding the environmental impacts of deep-sea mining, based on which Smith et al. [1] conclude that there are miscalculations on environmental impacts of deep-sea mining that need to be overcome to allow for an effective management of the industry. In order to manage the situation, scientists and lawyers should work together to formulate deep-sea mining regulations [2–4], through accurate interpretation of the law and by applying scientific evidence. The International Seabed Authority (ISA), created under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), manages deep-sea mining beyond national jurisdiction [5].
