The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is pleased to announce the publication of Vision and Change in the Geosciences – The Future of Undergraduate Geoscience Education report. Vision and Change is the culmination of summits, workshops, and surveys over the last six years, incorporating the inputs from more than 1,000 members of the geoscience community to develop a consensus on the future needs and approaches for educating future geoscientists.

This report addresses the drivers, needs, and strategies for preparing future generations of geoscientists for the rapidly changing geoscience discipline and profession. The report addresses a wide range of issues, from key geoscience concepts to pedagogy, recruitment, increasing diversity, facilitating change, and preparing students for future careers.

Dr. Sharon Mosher of the Jackson School of Geosciences, University of Texas at Austin, and a principal investigator across all phases of the project, noted, "In this report, the community has come together to address the critical roles academic institutions play in educating the next generation of diverse geoscientists to address societal challenges. I hope this effort enables change in geoscience programs across the broad spectrum of institutions and will be useful to departments that may be facing challenges."

The full text of the report and a freely downloadable PDF version are available at https://www.americangeosciences.org/change

The website also has a toolkit which will continue to expand to provide materials to support efforts to foster change in undergraduate geoscience education. Additionally, hard copies of the report can be purchased through amazon.com.

The development of this report was supported through a number of grants from the National Science Foundation (EAR-1347209, EAR-1725289, ICER-1748780, ICER-1740844, ICER-1740386). Any opinions, findings, and conclusions or recommendations expressed in the report are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the National Science Foundation.
