The European Geosciences Union (EGU) is seeking to appoint two interns to work with the EGU’s Media and Communications Team during spring 2021. The successful candidates will support the team in the lead-up to and throughout the virtual EGU General Assembly 2021 (19–30 April).

Responsibilities and activities will include:

  • Producing materials to promote the General Assembly and its virtual platform. This may take the form of blog posts, news items, instructional videos or gifs, graphics, webinars, and social media posts
  • Promoting daily highlights during the two-week event
  • Creating content for EGU’s social media platforms
  • Assisting with EGU’s mentoring and artist (not!) in-residence programmes

The ideal candidates will have:

  • Experience working in an academic environment, preferably in the Earth, planetary and space sciences or communications, including candidates who are currently studying or in the process of finalising their degrees
  • Expert command of English
  • Experience in a role requiring the clear communication of event details and/or scientific/technical information to a variety of audiences in a community-focused and engaging way
  • Experience using Instagram and/or Facebook
  • Ability to work effectively in an international environment and collaborate with people in a virtual setting
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines

Required application materials:

  • Letter of motivation (1 page)
  • CV (2 pages)
  • One relevant writing sample (maximum 1 page) that demonstrates the ability to communicate clearly and/or creatively (e.g., a blog post or social media post series)

Please note that only complete applications, with all required materials in English, will be accepted.

Interview date and process:
Interviews will be conducted online in mid-February.

Each intern will be expected to work at least 20 hours per week and will ideally be available from early March through mid-May. The time commitment is negotiable and should be clearly stated in the letter of motivation. Both internship positions will be remote but will involve daily calls and communication with EGU staff members.

Remuneration for the interns will range between EUR 10 and EUR 17 gross per hour depending on their qualifications.

Informal enquiries about this position can be made to Hazel Gibson at communications@egu.eu. Please submit all of your application materials in a single pdf document to vacancy@egu.eu. Review of applications will begin on Monday 8 Feburary and will continue until the positions are filled.
