Recognized by Insight Into Diversity Magazine as a top college for diversity <https://www.vancouver.wsu.edu/news/wsu-vancouver-receives-insight-divers..., WSUV commits to inclusive excellence by advancing equity and diversity in all that we do. Situated on 351 scenic acres, WSU Vancouver is in the homeland of the Chinookan and Taidnapam peoples and the Cowlitz Indian Tribe. A part of the Portland, Oregon metro area, Vancouver offers a wealth of social justice, cultural and recreational interests. WSUV’s strategic plan includes a commitment to equity and a goal to increase the success of historically minoritized students. We highly encourage scholars from underrepresented populations to apply and offer fellowship opportunities for students who identify as Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, Native American, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander and women in STEM. We also encourage students of diverse physical and mental abilities, genders, and orientations to apply. Dr. Moffett is personally engaged in campus, research, and departmental work toward enhanced equity and inclusion and invites students identifying with historically minoritized groups to apply to this position without hesitation. The application fee can be waived given demonstrated need. In addition to fostering top-tier scientific productivity, providing quality mentoring and supporting each individual’s career and life success are foremost priorities for Dr. Moffett as a research advisor.

Please send an email of inquiry/interest as soon as possible to kevan.moffett@wsu.edu and please attach a CV/resume and unofficial transcript. Complete applications are due by January 10 for priority review toward August/Fall admission, but late applications may be accepted until the position is filled.

Required preparation: BS or MS in a relevant science-math-engineering field, prior college-level calculus (or higher), physics, biology or chemistry, and some time at an English-speaking institution of research or higher education. Desired: experience with numerical modeling, spatial analysis, and/or code-based large-data set analysis; prior academic, research, or extracurricular experience showing self-motivation and somewhat independent project management; deep curiosity and scientific creativity; resilience.

Enrollment anticipated in August 2021 in a PhD or thesis-based MS in Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences. Full funding of tuition, stipend, and benefits will be guaranteed for sufficient time to complete the degree. Enrollment will be on the R1 Washington State University Vancouver (WSUV) campus among the extremely productive, interdisciplinary, and collaborative natural science research cluster. Students will take up residence in Washington State near Vancouver, WA, a fantastic city located in Southwest Washington, between the coast and the Cascades mountains and just across the Columbia River from vibrant Portland, Oregon.
