During a field campaign of the research-project CUSCO off the coast of Peru, scientists of GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel were caught in the first corona lockdown in spring. The team was able to complete the experiments under strict conditions, but had to leave luggage and all material behind when leaving in April. Today the first containers with material are returning to Kiel. Now the participants are still waiting for nine offshore mesocosms - special research platforms with which the project has carried out study experiments in the coastal upwelling area off Peru - as well as for important samples that are still in Peru.
