Waste to energy (WtE) refers to a family of technologies that process waste material to generate energy. This factsheet gives an overview of the different types of WtE technologies and aspects of the New Zealand context that may be relevant when considering WtE proposals.

It provides four basic principles that any WtE proposal should be considered against, as well as a summary of the questions that anyone considering a WtE proposal should be asking.
