英文摘要

The health of Canada’s plant life is at risk due to climate change, increased cross border travel, changes in land use, adoption of new crops and cultivation practices, and changing trade patterns. The spread of known and emerging pests ― exacerbated by climate change ― threatens agricultural and forestry sectors, urban ecosystems, and natural biodiversity.

Safeguarding plant health is imperative to maintaining food security, environmental sustainability, and public health. Given that the forestry sector contributes billions to the GDP and crop industries generate billions of dollars per year in exports, plant health also affects economic growth and prosperity.

This assessment will examine current and emerging risks to plant health, identify gaps and strengths in Canada’s capacity to manage them, and identify leading risk management practices.
