英文摘要
National policies to achieve the SDGs may lead to inequitable development at the sub-national levels. The research project "River basins as 'living laboratories' for achieving the SDGs across national and sub-national scales", collaborated among University of Glasgow (UK), Loughborough University (UK), Nankai University (China) and the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (Japan) under the Belmont Forum, aims to address this gap by developing a novel approach to mitigate the trade-offs between relevant SDG targets and across different geographical scales. The project (2019-2020) focuses on China’s Luanhe, a large river basin witnessed by many trade-offs between rapid economic development, increase in people's living standards and environmental degradation. The interlinkages between environmental hazards (SDGs 1 and 2), climate change (SDG 13), water resources (SDG 6), energy (SDG 7), ecological health (SDG 15) and urbanisation (SDG 11) will be investigated focusing on the interlinkages of land use change, ecosystem services/disservices and flood risks with other SDG targets. The existing IGES SDG Interlinkages Analysis & Visualisation Tool will be extended to the river basin level to assess the potential synergies and trade-offs across regions through SDG interlinkages.
