WASHINGTON — World Resources Institute’s Global Forest Watch (GFW) team will soon release annual tree cover loss data revealing where and how much forest the world lost in 2019.

Are trends in forest loss going up or down? During a year in which the world watched fires so closely, what impact did they have on forests? Although many 2020 commitments to end deforestation fell short, are there countries where policies are starting to show a positive impact?

The coronavirus pandemic poses threats to the world’s forests by limiting law enforcement and fire prevention efforts. Previous economic downturns and shifts in government priorities have resulted in major crises for forests, signaling that forest protection must be an important consideration in responses to COVID-19.

Join an embargoed press call with global forest experts from around the globe to preview 2019 tree cover loss data and analysis on Thursday, May 28 at 10:00 AM ET/16:00 CEST, hosted by WRI.

All information presented on the press call is strictly embargoed for Tuesday, June 2 at 00:01 AM EDT/6:01 AM CEST, when the data will be live on globalforestwatch.org.
