正文(英文) | As the world continues to work around lockdown, the EGU General Assembly 2020 will take place this week (4-8 May) online. The annual EGU (European Geosciences Union) meeting, which usually takes takes place in Vienna, usually attracts over 17,000 scientists from all over the world to network and discuss the latest research in Earth sciences. It is a key science conference highlight for many BAS researchers. This year’s online conference is FREE and anyone can view the abstracts and presentations via the EGU website. Participation in certain sessions requires registration. Around 30 BAS scientists are involved in this year’s EGU meeting. Some highlights are below – timings are local Vienna time BST +1. Monday 4 May 8:30 – 10:15h CEST Atmospheric scientist Amelie Kirchgaessner is presenting online: The representation of Föhn events to the east of the Antarctic Peninsula in simulations by the Antarctic Mesoscale Prediction System (AMPS) with BAS co-author John King. https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2020/session/36922 BAS researcher Sofia-Katerina Kufner is presenting online at the session: Geophysical and in-situ methods for snow and ice studies. BAS researchers Robert Mulvaney, Carlos Martin, keith Nichols, Alex Brisbourne, Dom Hodgson and Julius Rix are also taking part with input on the Beyond EPICA – Oldest Ice project and results from the recent BEAMISH project.https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2020/session/34939 BAS science director David Vaughan is co-convening a Great Debate session online: Cutting carbon in the geosciences: conference participation versus online streaming and fieldwork versus remote observations.
