Future Earth’s Anthropocene Magazine has been recognized in Fast Company’s 2020 World Changing Ideas Awards. The highly regarded awards, now in their 4th year, honor the businesses, policies, projects, and concepts that have the potential to effect true systems change or solve wicked problems.
Anthropocene Magazine, an initiative of Future Earth, is the first magazine of its kind devoted to the concept of the Anthropocene, a new epoch in the geologic history of the planet named for humanity’s influence on the globe. As both a digital and print magazine, it is a publication where the world’s most creative writers, designers, scientists, and entrepreneurs explore how we can create a sustainable human age we actually want to live in.
“The Anthropocene prods us to be more aware of our species outsized impact on the planet. It put us – for better or worse – in the driver’s seat,” said Kathryn Kohm, Anthropocene Editor in Chief.
“The Anthropocene Magazine’s mission is not to promote any particular agenda, but rather to give a voice to alternative views, to question groupthink when it arises, and to be a gathering place for the most creative minds working on the biggest environmental challenges of our time.”
The 2020 World Changing Ideas Awards celebrates Anthropocene Magazine’s tireless effort to shift perspectives and drive positive change for the world through science-based journalism.
“The key is figuring out the best lever to pull in any one system at any one time to shift it toward sustainability,” explained Kohm.
“We have taken on this challenge because I don’t think you can change the world without having conversations that just fundamentally aren’t happening today,” said Future Earth’s Colorado Global Hub Director, Joshua Tewksbury.
