International projects to boost global collaboration

Unlocking the secrets of agricultural soil, predicting the health risks of wildfire pollution, and updating legal systems to reflect the advances in Artificial Intelligence are among the projects recently announced that will share over £20 million of funding from UK Research and Innovation’s (UKRI) Fund for International Collaboration (FIC).

The University of Birmingham, University of Aberdeen and Imperial College London are among the organisations that have recently been awarded FIC funding to enable UK researchers to partner with world-leading collaborators, pushing the boundaries of research and finding solutions to some of the 21st century’s biggest challenges.

Israel, Japan, Canada, USA, Brazil, Sweden and Norway are among the partner countries who will be working with UK researchers on the projects.

The recently funded programmes include:

UKRI Executive Champion for International, Professor Andrew Thompson said:

“This collection of FIC funded projects is a great example of UKRI building new relationships and strengthening existing ones. It’s an outstanding start to 2020 for UK international collaborations and truly encapsulates the drive, ambition and passion UK researchers and innovators have for working with others around the world.”

The Fund for International Collaboration aims to enhance the UK’s excellence in research and innovation through global engagement, forging new bilateral and multilateral research and innovation programmes with global partners.
