WASHINGTON (April 10, 2019)—Four large food companies, Danone North America, Mars, Incorporated, Nestlé USA, and Unilever United States, who formed the Sustainable Food Policy Alliance (SFPA) last year, announced policies for how the federal government can tackle climate change in line with the science. While these companies have already taken steps internally and within their supply chains to reduce GHG emissions, they are now calling on the US government to act.

Following is a statement by Andrew Steer, President & CEO, World Resources Institute:

“This group of major food companies—Danone, Mars, Nestle and Unilever—are taking positive steps not only by reducing their emissions but in calling on the U.S. government to act. These companies recognize that smart climate action is important for their operations and products, and is fundamental to their long-term business success. They are making a strong statement by urging the federal government to implement specific climate policy principles, including putting an aggressive price on carbon, ensuring infrastructure policies address climate change, and making equity a central focus.

“This kind of corporate leadership is urgently needed in the face of the climate challenge. We offer our support to help convert these principles into smart policies.”
