WASHINGTON (June 26, 2019) – This week the government of Norway announced plans to allocate approximately $53 million USD to purchase high-resolution satellite images of tropical forests. These images will be made freely available throughout the next four years to goverement and civil society groups, including Global Forest Watch.

Following is a statement from Crystal Davis, Global Forest Watch Director at WRI:

“Norway’s commitment to deliver high-resolution satellite imagery is a welcome contribution to the forest conservation cause. As one of the benefiting partners, Global Forest Watch stands ready to display this enhanced imagery, continuing our commitment to deliver best-in-class data, technology and tools for forest monitoring. Improved imagery means that GFW can provide users with more timely and accurate information about when and where forests are changing around the world.”
