正文(英文)	The Andrews Government’s new tax grab on Victorian gold miners will cost jobs in regional Victoria, threaten investment and hit the mining industry hard across Victoria. The government’s claims that the introduction of a gold royalty ‘brings Victoria into line with other states’ or that smaller miners will be exempt are both wrong. The Andrews Government’s mining tax grab is higher than Western Australian gold royalties, and ignores the fact that most of Victoria’s gold mines are smaller than other states and face a far less favourable regulatory regime. And all operating mines in Victoria will pay this new tax including smaller mines and marginal mines. The Andrews Government has not consulted or listened to regional communities such as Stawell, Bendigo and Ballarat which are home to hundreds of highly paid, highly skilled mining jobs. This new tax grab further damages Victoria’s reputation as a place for the mining industry to invest and create a pipeline of jobs in regional communities.
