Events:

The Tyndall Centre will be represented at a number of events at COP24 in Katowice, Poland, in addition to a stand in the Exhibition Hall.

We showcase some of the Tyndall Centre and University of East Anglia’s Research including the Global Carbon Budget 2018, the science of climate change communication, 1.5 vs 2C impacts and pathways to decarbonisation, Asher Minns Tyndall Centre UEA
 

Every half a degree matters: The impacts of climate change

Tuesday 4th December 10:00 – 12:00; UK Pavilion, Katowice, Poland

Please join researchers and experts for an informative and interactive session on the impacts of climate change at 1.5ºC of global warming and higher, demonstrating the benefits of increasing global mitigation ambition.

Topics will include:

  • Global climate impacts at 1.5ºC and 2ºC (Rachel Warren, IPCC Lead Author, Tyndall Centre, University of East Anglia)
  • Climate impacts across South Asia (Saiful Islam, IPCC Lead Author, Bangladesh University of Technology)
  • Economic impacts of climate change (Paul Watkiss, Paul Watkiss Associates Climate Change Consultancy)

A panel discussion will follow.

Public engagement in the context of COP commitments

We present international research and practice on public understanding of climate change. We discuss how policy-makers and scientists can engage effectively and creatively with non-specialists, situating this in the context of commitments made by the Parties to public awareness and participation.

Key outcomes of research undertaken in support of the IPCC’s Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C

Scientists from Germany, Norway and the United Kingdom will be presenting the key outcomes of research undertaken in support of the IPCC’s Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C, which are of particular significance for the Talanoa Dialogue.

Earth System challenges in the transition to a low carbon society 

Thursday 6th December, 14h30-16h30, Brussels Room, EU pavilion
