The School of International Development, supported by a generous match-funded donation from the John Innes Foundation, is seeking to recruit a Professor to maintain and develop its world-class research on sustainable development and lead on innovative and interdisciplinary research collaborations across the Norwich Research Park (NRP). This will include shaping the agenda of the emerging Norwich Institute for Sustainable Development, a new interdisciplinary centre of excellence established to maximise the impact of our region’s research strengths on the Sustainable Development Goals.

The School welcomes applications are invited from academics who have recently become Professors or feel they are close to professorial level and who work at the intersection of social and natural sciences. They should be experienced in interdisciplinary working in relation to key global challenges: food, water, energy and/or the environment. Their research should address clearly identified and specific issues and be aimed at delivering outcomes that have practical impact on the ground within the context of agricultural innovation, climate adaptation, rural livelihoods or other related areas. The successful candidate will have a clear record of accomplishment and directly relevant achievements measured by grants, publications and other measures of esteem.

This new post has been created out of a growing understanding of the benefits of partnership working across the Norwich Research Park (NRP), and, in particular, between the John Innes Centre (JIC) and UEA, who already enjoy a close and fruitful working relationship.

The School welcomes applications from candidates who can demonstrate outstanding research achievements, allied with experience in generating impact and teaching and supervision. The primary criteria for appointment will be: strong intellectual and professional achievement commensurate with the level of Professor, an established international reputation and experience of academic leadership. They should have interests in research and teaching that fit within the School’s sustainable development research profile (www.uea.ac.uk/international-development/research) and have the potential to bridge with topics of relevance to JIC (www.jic.ac.uk).

This is a full time, indefinite appointment available from February 2020. The post is available as part of a package including research and administrative assistance.
