Executive Summary

40 years of monitoring by the Supervising Scientist has shown that the people and the environment of Kakadu National Park remain protected from the effects of uranium mining. In 2021, the Ranger Uranium mine will close and the site must be rehabilitated by 2026. Energy Resources of Australia Ltd, operator of the Ranger uranium mine, publically released their Ranger Mine Closure Plan in June 2018. The Supervising Scientist has completed a detailed assessment of the Ranger Mine Closure Plan, and this report makes a number of recommendations to ensure the best possible environmental outcomes can be achieved.
