ABRS National Taxonomy Research Grant Program

The 2019 round of ABRS Student Travel Grants is NOW CLOSED.

The ABRS offers financial support to postgraduate students studying at Australian institutions to travel to a national or international conference or workshop relevant to both the student's research program in systematics or taxonomy and the Priority Areas for Research Grants.

Amounts of either $750 (for domestic travel) or $1,500 (for international travel) GST exclusive, are available on an annual basis.

The 2019 Student Travel Grants round will close at 2pm (AEST) Wednesday 1 May 2019.

Assessment Criteria and Process

Applications are assessed by the ABRS, using the Rules and the assessment criteria, processes and weightings listed in the table below:

Assessment Criteria
Application completed correctly and deemed to be eligible Yes/No
Relevance of the student’s research project to the Priority Areas for Research Grants 40%
Relevance of proposed conference/workshop to the student’s research and the Priority Areas for Research Grants 40%
Amount of matching funding from host institution or other source(s) obtained by the student 20%

Funding Agreement

Successful applicants will be required to enter into a funding agreement with the Australian Government (as represented by the ABRS).

All Student Travel Grant recipients will be subject to the conditions set out in the Mini Funding Agreement:

Reporting

All successful applicants applying for funding under the 2019 Student Travel Grants will be required to meet specific reporting requirements. Successful applicants must submit a Completion Report and Financial Acquittal within 60 days of the student’s attendance at the conference or workshop.

In entering into a funding agreement with the ABRS, the Host Institution and the student agree to meet the reporting requirements set out in the funding agreement. Reports should be submitted to the ABRS by the Host Institution contact only.

If evidence of registration at the conference or workshop, and evidence that a poster or oral paper presentation hasn’t been submitted to the ABRS with the application submission, this evidence must be submitted with the Completion Report and Financial Acquittal.
