It marks the 100^th year anniversary of IUGG and is reviewing the achievements of Earth and Space Science research in the previous century to discuss the next century’s scientific advancement. Future Earth is participating in the IUGG general assembly and contributing to the discussion.

Future Earth has also supported the new book, "Global Change and Future Earth: The Geoscience Perspective." The book, published by the Cambridge University Press in October 2018, demonstrates how multi- and inter-disciplinary research outputs from the geoscience community can be applied to tackle the physical and societal impacts of climate change and contribute to the Future Earth programme of the International Council for Science. The book is derived from the work of several programs of the IUGG. 

The volume brings together an international team of eminent researchers to provide authoritative reviews on the wide-ranging ramifications of climate change spanning eight key themes: planetary issues; geodetic issues; the Earth's fluid environment; regions of the Earth; urban environments; food security; and risk, safety and security; and climate change and global change. The lead editors are Tom Beer from IUGG Commission on Climate and Environmental Change, Jianping Li from Beijing Normal University, and Keith Alverson from UNEP International Environmental Technology Centre. Experts from the International Science Council (ISC) and inter-governmental agencies below also contributed to the book:

• International Union of Food Science and Technology;
• International Geographical Union;
• International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics;
• International Union of Geological Sciences;
• International Union of Toxicology;
• International Union of Nutritional Sciences;
