Kim Prather, a distinguished chair in atmospheric chemistry at the University of California San Diego, talks to a team member in the Hydraulics Lab at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego as a wave flume is prepared for a six-week experiment. The flume will act as a miniaturized version of the ocean in which breaking waves eject aerosols into an "atmosphere" within the enclosed flume.

The NSF-funded SeaSCAPE project by Prather's Center for Aerosol Impacts on Chemistry of the Environment (CAICE) is designed to replicate natural sea spray aerosol in a controlled setting, allowing for detailed fundamental studies of aerosol reactions.
