La. braces as Tropical Storm Barry approaches swollen river
Residents of Plaquemines and Jefferson parishes in southeast Louisiana received mandatory evacuation orders this morning as Tropical Storm Barry moved within 100 miles of the Louisiana coastline, where it could make landfall Saturday. Officials are making preparations for the "unprecedented event," which could push the already swollen Mississippi River over the top of its levees in some areas.
