WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) celebrated the conclusion of the Fiscal Year 2018 (FY 2018) appropriations process. The Omnibus bill, signed by President Trump, includes $34.5 billion in funding for the DOE.

“As a former appropriator, I am keenly aware of the work that goes in to the budget process, and I am grateful for the certainty that this FY 2018 Budget will bring our Department,” said Secretary Perry. “This package funds our missions and will allow us to do great work for American energy. DOE will now be focused on executing our work under this budget in the most effective way possible.”

Some highlights from the package include:

  • $6.3 billion for Science research programs

  • $2.3 billion for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE)

  • $1.2 billion for Nuclear Energy

  • $727 million for Fossil Energy

  • $353 million for The Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E)

  • $7.1 billion for Environmental Management (EM)

The DOE budget provides funding for critical priorities, including over $500 million to advance exascale computing and over $100 million for cybersecurity to protect electric grid and energy infrastructure.  This package also includes the suspension of any plans to barter, sell or transfer the 600 metric tons of uranium used to fund the Portsmouth site. Most importantly this package emphasizes the Trump Administration’s continued focus on our national security by increasing the overall funding for the National Nuclear Security Administration.
