With regard to Florence:

  • The Department of Energy’s Energy Response Center is fully activated and DOE ESF-12 responders have deployed to FEMA coordination centers in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and Atlanta, in addition to State Emergency Operations Centers in the Carolinas. We are prepared to deploy to other State Emergency Operations Centers as requested.
  • Energy industry has engaged its mutual assistance networks, and more than 40,000 utility workers are ready to support power restoration efforts as soon as it is safe to do so. This includes prepositioned crews from at least nineteen states.
  • DOE is coordinating closely with Federal, state and local government partners, as well as industry on preparedness activities.
  • DOE has begun implementation of emergency planning and potential response activities at the Savannah River Site (SRS) in South Carolina. SRS is in daily coordination with federal, state, and local emergency planning organizations.  All critical SRS site operations will be maintained at safe levels during the hurricane, as these facilities are structured to be able to withstand extreme natural events including hurricanes and floods.
  • Department leadership has been participating in daily coordination calls with the Electricity Subsector Coordinating Council (ESCC) and the Oil and Natural Gas Subsector Coordinating Council (ONGSCC) to fully coordinate response efforts at the senior most levels from industry and government.

Situation Reports:

  • To stay up to date with the most recent severe weather events, DOE is posting event summaries and situational updates on Florence on the CESER website twice daily at 10:00AM and 4:30PM.  View the latest situation report HERE.

Energy Disruption Map:

  • The Energy Information Administration has published an energy disruption map on its website with a key electricity indicator status. The first report shows data through 7 AM this morning and will be updated twice daily through the weekend. The report tracks hourly electric load in North and South Carolina, with disaggregated hourly data for the five balancing authorities in the two states.  The next update will be at 5 PM today.

Other DOE ESF-12 Deployments include:

  • Pacific theater: Hawai’i, Guam and Northern Marianas Islands

  • Caribbean: U.S. Virgin Islands
