Construction company John Sisk & Son (Sisk) has become the first Irish business to join EP100, a global corporate energy efficiency drive led by The Climate Group in partnership with the Alliance to Save Energy.

Joining global powerhouses Schneider Electric, Johnson Controls and H&M in driving smart energy use and technological innovation, Sisk aims to double its energy productivity by 2030 (based on 2014 levels) – meaning that there will be twice the economic output from every unit of energy consumed.

The company recognizes that this will both reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lower its energy costs, improving corporate stability and profitability.

Helen Clarkson, CEO of The Climate Group, welcomed the company’s effort:

As the first Irish company to join EP100, Sisk is positioning itself alongside some of the world’s most influential companies committed to the highest levels of leadership on climate change.

“By making smarter use of everyday energy, our members are driving tech innovation while saving on energy bills and lowering their emissions – that’s good business.”

A sustainable business strategy

“Energy efficiency is an important part of our long-term business strategy at John Sisk & Son,” explained Stephen Bowcott, CEO, John Sisk & Son.

He continued, “As an innovative, international, engineering and construction company with extensive operations across Ireland, the United Kingdom and mainland Europe, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and contributing to the global fight against climate change. Sisk’s membership of EP100 further demonstrates this commitment.”

Ian O’Connor, Energy Manager, John Sisk & Son added: “I am proud to work for a company taking the lead in energy productivity in the construction industry.”

Supported by The Climate Group, Sisk will now work to identify, assess and implement energy conservation measures, focusing on fuel used for its construction sites and vehicle fleets. The company has already implemented an Eco Driving pilot project on over 100 vehicles which has resulted in a saving of approximately 33,000 liters or 10% of annual fuel consumption.
