Once the tallest building in the world, measuring from base to finial at a staggering 1,454 feet above Midtown Manhattan, the Empire State Building is going green today to mark the beginning of Climate Week NYC tomorrow (September 24^th 2018).

Empire State Realty Trust Inc., (the corporation who own the iconic landmark) have made plenty of new investments in energy efficiency, infrastructure, public areas and amenities over the years. The Empire State Building is a timeless symbol of New York’s elegance and attitude, as well as the city’s leadership in business and climate.

In 2011, the Empire State Building purchased 110 million kilowatt-hours worth of renewable energy certificates — enough to cover its yearly electricity consumption.

That makes it perfect for Climate Week NYC, hosted by The Climate Group, an NGO with offices around the world dedicated to accelerating climate action on the most ambitious scales. We’re so thrilled “the most famous building in the world” will go green for Climate Week NYC this year.  

Climate Week NYC is set to open Monday, September 24^th, with speakers from the highest levels of government and business convening to drive change at the highest levels.

This year an illuminated, emerald-green skyline is set to welcome speakers such as Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern of New Zealand, Governor of California, Jerry Brown and Executive Secretary of the UNFCC, Patricia Espinosa, as well as Brad Smith, CEO of Microsoft, as well as the chiefs of Ricoh and IKEA Group. World-class top leaders will convene in New York to discuss collaboration in the face of climate-change.
