Sir David Attenborough today launched the Voice for the Planet at the World Economic Forum in Davos, a global online action calling on world leaders to agree on a New Deal for Nature and People in 2020 to halt and reverse humanity’s impact on nature and protect our planet.
The Voice for the Planet allows people to add their name by signing a petition as well as pledging to make a lifestyle change. Political and business leaders in Davos were invited to sign up and commit to tackling the loss of nature before the damage is irreparable.
Human activity has taken the planet, our home, to the brink. A survey conducted before the WEF found that environmental threats are now the biggest danger to the global economy. Current global efforts to solve environmental issues are not working. We need a new response and now is the time to act before it’s too late.
That is why WWF is in Davos pushing hard for urgent and unprecedented action through a New Deal For Nature and People in 2020. Next year sees a historic moment when world leaders will take key decisions on climate change, sustainable development and nature. What we do now, and in the next few years, will profoundly affect the future of our civilization.
The Voice for the Planet will create a visual demonstration of the global demand for action to save our planet, and will be presented to heads of state in 2020 when new global targets on nature will be set by governments across the world.
