| 正文(英文) | Amphoe Na Noi, Nan, 25th July 2018 – As part of the project’s key activities towards the localization of sustainable consumption and production (SCP), WWF held their final collaborative capacity building workshop, alongside local-based organizations, smallholder farmers and relevant key stakeholders, from 24th-25th July, 2018 in Nan province, which aims at promoting sustainable production practices, as well as the establishment of sustainable food value chain through the province’s local food biodiversity. Through the development and implementation of SCP solution model, the project looks towards the restoration of degraded agricultural and forest landscapes, as well as an improved community livelihood.
From 29th April to 3rd July, 2018, a total of 14 training workshops have been organized throughout Nan, covering over 20 districts and 200 plots of land (an approximate of 326 acres), alongside the participation of 31 communities (total of over 1,300 participants) towards the promotion of the Participatory Guaranteed System (PGS). Where the system is built on trust of its key stakeholders, the quality assurance mechanism allows for farmers to conduct the certification process of their produced goods themselves provided that they adhere to certification standards and guidelines. With the PGS now widely accepted by key farmer groups and communities of Nan, WWF-Thailand hopes to further develop the community’s capacity to coordinate and facilitate collective production of quality sustainable goods for the benefit of consumers, as well as their community livelihoods.
The final workshop, held on 24th July, was organized in Bua Yai district, Na Noi Province, Nan, comprising of around 50 smallholder representatives of the community to conclude and reflect on the lessons learnt from the first phase of the activity, as well as agreeing on the next set of activities for the second stage. This includes: 1) Development of the traceability monitoring platform, 2) establishment of future collaborative action plans and sustainable practice models as strategic guidelines towards achieving sustainable production and, 3) the construction of farm schools in the community.
Under the collaborative partnership between WWF, Nan Organic Agricultural Network (NON), Central Group (and Tops Supermarket), the local communities of Nan will receive a community collection of PGS sustainable-certified products, and packaging house, before products are distributed to various local and retailer markets. In addition, where the farmers are in dire need of increased connectivity and understanding of local markets, a traceability platform under agritech startup, Ricult, will also be utilized as a means to support smart and precision farming practices and traceability monitoring system for consumers. This will allow for technological innovative learning through direct civil society participation; connecting farmers and consumers along the fork-to-farm continuum.
As part of an on-going research on capacity building and strengthening of environmental conservation in the largely deforested area of the province, 25th July consisted of a research and evaluation workshop alongside the Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) to develop further dialogue and knowledge exchange on current social and environmental issues related to monoculture production, as well as the communities’ current agriculture mechanization gaps, which will help researchers make further effective use of the information.
Many highlighted on the need for access to and knowledge of the appropriate tools and technology for their farming practices, which would allow them to further contribute towards the establishment and development of a sustainable agriculture production.
The WWF-Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) project is part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building, and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) supports this initiative on the basis of a decision adopted by the German Bundestag.
