Geneva, 18 March 2019: Today the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) launched the new Microgrid Hub, at the 9th Microgrid Global Innovation Forum in Washington D.C. The Microgrid Hub is an online library of case studies that showcases commercial and industrial (C&I) low-carbon microgrids across the world.

A microgrid is a set of energy resources that can operate, if needed, independently from the electricity grid. Traditional microgrids rely on fossil fuels, but now low-carbon microgrids run predominantly on renewable power.

C&I companies are implementing low-carbon microgrids in ever-increasing numbers, to satisfy their energy demand and carbon reduction targets. Low-carbon microgrids allow companies to increase power reliability, reduce energy costs and lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The aim of the Hub is to use existing project examples to inspire C&I companies and help them implement new microgrid projects in different geographies more successfully.

The Hub will act as a living library of case studies. C&I companies can browse case studies to learn from existing examples and contact the project developer for more information. Project developers can add case studies from their project portfolios at any time, contributing important learnings to the library.

To find out more, visit the new Microgrid Hub.

The Microgrid Hub builds on WBCSD’s previous work on low-carbon microgrids, including the WBCSD report on Microgrids for C&I companies (6 November 2017).
