31/10/2018 - Ensuring inclusive growth and sustainable well-being amid rapid technological change, rising inequalities, environmental pressures and mounting distrust between groups in society will be the focus of the 6th OECD World Forum on Statistics, Knowledge and Policy in Incheon, Korea, from 27 – 29 November 2018.

International experts and policy-makers from fields as diverse as the economy, the environment, health, development, social affairs and statistics will discuss the trends that will re-shape people’s lives in the decades to come, as well as the information gaps that will need to be filled to respond to the challenges ahead. Particular emphasis will be given to three important trends and how they interact – the digital transformation, governance in an increasingly complex world, and the role of the private sector in ensuring sustainable and inclusive well-being.

All sessions of the Forum, organised in co-operation with Statistics Korea, will be open to the media.

A press conference will be held at 12.45 on the first day with OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría; Professor Joseph E. Stiglitz, Columbia University; Professor Emeritus Jean-Paul Fitoussi, SciencesPo Paris & LUISS Guido Carli University Rome; and OECD Chief Statistician Martine Durand to launch the reports on how we can look Beyond GDP and measure what really matters in people’s lives by the OECD-hosted High Level Group, which was established to follow-up on the work of the Stiglitz-Sen-Fitoussi Commission set up by the French government in 2008.

At a press conference on Thursday 29 November at 13:15, OECD Development Centre Director Mario Pezzini and Professor François Bourguignon, Paris School of Economics will launch the Perspectives on Global Development report, which shows that developing nations in the 21st century have to invent their own, original pathways to greater well-being and sustainability.

Other key speakers at the Forum will include Her Royal Highness Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands; Ban Ki-moon, Former Secretary-General of the United Nations; You Young-min, Korea’s Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning; Jeffrey D. Sachs, Professor of Economics, Columbia; Malin Ripa (Senior Vice President, Volvo Group), Julia Hobsbawm (author and Honorary Visiting Professor, Cass Business Schoo); Kang Shin-wok, Commissioner, Statistics Korea.

Part of the OECD’s Better Life Initiative, the OECD World Forum aims to improve the construction and dissemination of key social, economic and environmental indicators.

Journalists should email wellbeing@oecd.org for information on registration.
