Geoscience Australia has proudly contributed to the Australian Government's Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Decadal Plan consultation process. Developed by Australian Academy of Science and the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering, the plan aims to provide a 10 year roadmap to achieve sustained increases in women's STEM participation and retention from school age through to post-graduate careers. Geoscience Australia's Chief Executive Officer, Dr James Johnson, said the agency wholeheartedly supports this initiative to increase female participation in STEM, particularly in the geosciences. "We know that gender equity, and diversity in general, enables individuals and teams to perform at their best so they can be productive, resilient and adaptive," Dr Johnson said. "Our submission reflects the efforts already underway at Geoscience Australia to promote gender equity. "This includes a Gender Strategy, Gender and Equality Network, and we have also joined the Science in Australia and Gender Equity (SAGE) national program. "I look forward to the Decadal Plan's early implementation to help articulate the barriers and solutions to gender equity in the STEM workforce." Geoscience Australia's submission is available online here. |
