Researchers have been looking to the past to help understand how to protect ecosystems into the future. Investigating the North Sea, they have unravelled the history of fishing and the impacts of climate change, and what may lie ahead for the waters and fisheries of the North Atlantic in the years to come.

'We can identify areas that will be of interest in the coming decades and then protect those from destructive use, such as seabed dredging or mining,' said Dr Ana Queirós, Senior Benthic Ecologist at PML.
