正文(英文) | 11/02/2019 ![]() ![]() UK researchers will play a leading role at the world’s largest general scientific meeting this month, with presentations on latest developments in topics ranging from neuroscience and patient safety in hospitals, to combatting fake news, living healthier and longer lives, and reducing the impact of climate change. The American Association for the Advancement for Science (AAAS) will hold its 185th annual meeting in Washington DC from February 14-17, and is expected to attract around 8,000 delegates. UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) will provide support to UK researchers attending the AAAS meeting, and will showcase the strength of UK research with an exhibit stand, and at an international networking event. UKRI Chief Executive, Professor Sir Mark Walport, said: “The AAAS annual meeting attracts researchers, policy makers and governments from around the world, and is an ideal opportunity to promote the excellence of our research and innovation.” “The UK is already a global scientific powerhouse, and the global partner of choice in research and innovation. We are absolutely committed to retaining our leading status, and I look forward to discussing with global counterparts the positive impacts of the Industrial Strategy, and the Government’s commitment to lift investment in R&D to 2.4% of Gross Domestic Product by 2027.” The United Kingdom stand and reception at the meeting will feature exhibits covering health ageing, environmental science, online gaming, gravitational waves, 3D holograms for health care, reducing HIV/AIDS in Africa, and new technology to diagnose and treat lung disease. Abertay, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Southampton universities, and the British Antarctic Survey will be represented through the exhibits. Science sessions involving UK speakers include:
